"A presente mostra pode ser entendida como continuação do trabalho sistemático de catalogação dos crimes contra a humanidade. Valente Alves parte de um exemplo paradigmático da escultura helenística – a Vitória de Samotrácia – para realizar uma reflexão quer sobre a colonização de África, quer sobre os não-lugares contemporâneos. O triunfo do Ocidente é apenas uma intensa ruína: conclusão a tirar da exibição de factos e da sua respectiva análise.
Nos diversos espaços do CAPC confrontam-se, em excelente montagem, quatro inquietantes fotografias a preto e branco de modernos cenários urbanos com outros tantos mapas, reportando a situação do continente africano em 1914 – a divisão territorial operada pelos europeus e as datas de independência dos diferentes estados. Na sala negra é mostrada uma melancólica imagem colorida com legenda: “If your subconscious knew of this place, all your dreams would happen here.” Inquietante, a oposição entre o luxo prometido e a realidade apresentada na instalação. Aqui, é impossível respirar."

“The present exhibition can be understood as a continuation of a systematic work of cataloging the crimes against humanity. Valente Alves part of a paradigmatic example of Hellenistic sculpture – the Victory of Samothrace – to carry out a reflection either on the colonization of Africa, either on contemporary non-places. The triumph of the West is just an intense ruin: conclusion from the view of the facts and their respective analysis.
In the CAPC spaces are confronted, in an excellent mountage, four disquieting black-and-white photos of modern urban scenarios with four maps, reporting the situation of the African continent in 1914 – the territorial division operated by European and the independence dates of different African states. In the black room is shown a melancholic color image with a caption: “If your subconscious Knew of this place, all your dreams would happen here.” Unsettling, the opposition between the luxury promised and the reality presented in the installation. Here, it is impossible to breathe.”
