Sobre os Sonhos de Manuel Valente Alves é um projeto expositivo que se desdobra em dois momentos: Grund, apresentando agora no ISPA, e Abgrund, previsto para a Fundação Carmona e Costa em 2027.

Tendo como ponto de partida a relação entre sonho, percepção e construção do real, Grund interroga as estruturas — físicas, culturais e mentais - através das quais habitamos o mundo. Fotografias, pinturas, desenhos e vídeo articulam cidade, arquitectura, linguagem, memória, natureza e corpo, convocando diferentes modos de ver e de produzir sentido. A fotografia All your dreams (da série Vitória de Samotrácia, 1996) funciona como imagem-manifesto e ponto de partida desta exposição: entre a paisagem urbana e o território do inconsciente, o espaço revela-se simultaneamente concreto e imaginado.

Grund organiza-se em dois núcleos. O primeiro (Galeria Malangatana) confronta a materalidade da cidade e os seus duplos, onde geometrias, imagens e signos se cruzam com a presença do mundo vivo. O segundo (Sala Mário Casimiro) apresenta a série A Invenção das Nuvens (2023), a qual conduz o olhar por formas em permanente suspensão da gravidade. Neste persurso, as imagens resistem a uma nomeação definitiva: permanecem abertas e ambíguas, entre o que reconhecemos e aquilo que ainda não conseguimos nomear.

Se Grund procura o chão, Abgrund prolongará esta viagem em direcção ao abismo.

On Dreams by Manuel Valente Alves is an exhibition project that unfolds in two moments: Grund, currently presented at ISPA, and Abgrund, scheduled for the Carmona e Costa Foundation in 2027.

Starting from the relationship between dreams, perception, and the construction of reality, Grund interrogates the structures — physical, cultural, and mental — through which we inhabit the world. Photographs, paintings, drawings, and video articulate city, architecture, language, memory, nature, and body, summoning different ways of seeing and producing meaning. The photograph All your dreams (from the series Victory of Samothrace, 1996) functions as a manifesto-image and starting point for this exhibition: between the urban landscape and the territory of the unconscious, space reveals itself simultaneously as concrete and imagined.

Grund is organized into two nuclei. The first (Malangatana Gallery) confronts the materiality of the city and its doubles, where geometries, images, and signs intersect with the presence of the living world. The second (Mário Casimiro Room) presents the series The Invention of Clouds (2023), which guides the eye through forms in permanent suspension of gravity. In this journey, the images resist a definitive naming: they remain open and ambiguous, between what we recognize and what we have not yet been able to name.

If Grund seeks the ground, Abgrund will extend that journey towards the abyss.
