Inspirado no romance inacabado Andreas (1907-1929 de Hugo von Hoffmansthal este vídeo cruza imagens de vários lugares e não-lugares do mundo, onde dicotomias como a natureza e a cultura, o norte e o sul, a beleza e o sublime se dissolvem em bifurcações, súbitas mudanças de plano e de velocidade, inesperados cruzamentos. "Nestas imagens [...] estão lançadas as escadas sobre a ruína; sobre uma distante Babel; longínqua, em crescendo; lanço de escada após lanço de escada. E aquele que as lançou é também aquele que as sobe segundo uma analogia matemática, segmento a segmento, proporção a proporção, degrau a degrau. Mesmo que um degrau falhe, a comparação que se ocupa das grandezas mensuráveis permanece, nem que seja no torturado ferro que se vai estender ao longo dos pisos: andares de «ninguém» que contêm um branco de cal, um branco de branco sujo, queimado na vertigem de uma obra colossal, erguida por ninguém, para ninguém".

Inspired in the unfinished novel Andreas (1907-1929 by Hugo von Hoffmansthal this video crosses images of various places and non-places in the world where dichotomies such as nature and culture, north and south, beauty and sublime dissolve in bifurcations, sudden changes of plan and speed, unexpected intersections. “In these images of Valente Alves’s photography and video the stairs over the ruin are set up; over a distant Babel; far off, in a crescendo; one flight of stairs after another. And the person who set them up is also the person who goes up them following a mathematical analogy, segment by segment, proportion by proportion, step by step. Even if one step is missing, the comparison that deals with measurable greatness remains, even if it is in the tortured iron that is stretched over the stores, stores of ‘no one’ that contain a whitewash white, a white of off-white, burnt in the dizziness of a colossal work, raised by no one, for no one.
